Join us as we walk through the three major cloud computing platforms--Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform--and explain differences between compute and storage options, deployment options (self-deploy vs. marketplace), configuration best practices, and management best practices. Don’t worry, we know you’re thinking about data gravity, so we’ll also be discussing the cloud databases you’re most likely to use with each infrastructure partner, along with best practices for those data sources. If you're evaluating running Tableau Server in the cloud, but not sure which platform is right for you, this is the session for you.
Tableau makes exploring your data easy, but what do you do when that data is locked away behind a web service? Is exporting all of your data the only hope? With Web Data Connectors in Tableau, you can now unlock these sources and bring your precious data into Tableau easily from both internal and external web services. Web Data Connectors let you connect to and refresh web data sources by writing some custom code. In this session we'll walk through how these connectors work, how they integrate with Tableau, and look at some real world examples. We'll even write a simple connector and take you through the steps to build, debug, and share the final connector.

The Web Data Connector (WDC) allows you to bring data into Tableau from any data source that you can access over the web. After creating an initial connector, building a robust and delightful WDC for your users can require more advanced knowledge of the platform and how it fits in with the rest of Tableau. The team at Tableau that builds the WDC platform and API will share with you some advanced tips to help you write more impactful, high quality connectors. In this session, we will cover the following (and much more):
- Advanced features such as multi-table connectors and pre-defined joins
- The different types of authentication (including OAuth) and when to use them
- Working with WDCs in Tableau Server and Online

United Rentals has 5000+ contractual agreements with its largest and most valuable customers. These agreements are primarily maintained by the sales team of 2000+ sales professionals who utilize Salesforce.com as the primary CRM platform. In addition to SFDC the sales team is also heavily dependent on internal data that is used to analyze and construct contractual agreements with its customers. The process of adequately analyzing agreements, tracking approval flow and finalizing agreements within the ERP system was lacking and inefficient at best. The difficulties in the legacy process led to reduced productivity, less than adequate analysis, and in some cases loss of revenue and ultimately profitably.
As a solution to these issues, we integrated a cloud-based Tableau reporting solution within the Salesforce.com platform, leveraging Tableau's Sparkler framework. This new solution provides increased efficiency and improved analytics leading to better decision making and profitability. In addition, the efficiency of the decision making process and approval flow has improved dramatically leading to increased selling time for the sales teams.
We will cover the following topics during this session:
1) Strategy: selling the efficiency and value that can be delivered via a custom Tableau and SFDC solution
2) Proof of Concept and Capability: live demonstration of the analytics solution containing Tableau dashboards integrated within SFDC platform
3) Technical Architecture: high level discussion on architecture of the solution
4) Delivering the Value: illustration of how the final solution improved decision making, and increased efficiency throughout the organization ultimately leading to value creation for the organization
