It is late 2014 a new analytics team is assembled and start to evaluate the toolsets that are available. And what do they find? Duct tape and chewing gum... or its analytical equivalent - Microsoft BI. But wait, there is hope - PowerPivot running on SharePoint will surely save the day! #fail. It's now early 2015, and we have no way of providing insight to 50+ site managers across the globe about the recent annual services survey sent to 100K employees. Learn how without any IT support, this analytics team threw out the duct tape and chewing gum and got real with Tableau.
Is your company thinking about going public and you are unsure what role your data has to play in that? Is your BI strategy IPO ready? Mimecast listed on the NASDAQ in November 2015 and we'd like to take you through how we achieved that using the power of Tableau.
In this session, we will share with you how Mimecast uses Tableau to help acquire, retain and up-sell our customers. We will show you how Tableau driven data analysis helps define strategy at Mimecast and take you through our journey from data laggards to being a truly data-driven company. We will share with you the different ways in which Mimecast uses Tableau, from Desktop data analysis to automated board level PPT creation and everything in between.
Dell HR leverages Tableau and Tableau Server to perform routine reporting, advanced reporting, advanced analytics, and predictive modeling on a dynamic 150 thousand team member workforce. Learn how the techniques used to show reconciliation reporting, org. hygiene, turnover, shoring, and costs, can be replicated quickly and easily at your enterprise.
Learn how to apply several advanced HR analytics techniques using a simple data set and Tableau. We’ll demonstrate how to construct a time to proficiency visualization that explains how all previous and future new hires can reach key levels of proficiency from their hire date(s). Using built in functions of fits, filtering and colors understand the relationship between your HR on-boarding and the effects on performance.
See success in action at Conversant Media - Tableau has made a huge impact in our business culture, as the trusted source to find metrics and to perform deep personalized analysis. Come to this session to learn about our seven tips for a successful Tableau Server deployment and how we transitioned from a small to an Enterprise deployment via a crawl-walk-run way of thinking. Walk away from our session with newfound concepts, actionable insights, and some thought provoking ideas.
How to balance the top down data governance objective of the ever elusive "single version of the truth" with the value added business insights, facilitated by a bottoms up, self-service BI culture? The solution lies in ancient wisdom.
While the two energies may seem to conflict, with the right approach they actually strengthen one another to form a stronger whole. In the session, we will share our journey from multiple versions of the truth to our approach for driving standardized, automated reporting, leveraging Tableau.
Key takeaways include:
- Governance and self-service - you can have both. But how?
- What content to focus on? How does Tableau fit in?
- What makes a report "certified"?
- How a Tableau web portal helped unify the experience
What do Domino's, Comcast and Tableau have in common? At EMC, we took inspiration from each organization to build a prototype in less than 24 hours that provides our customers with visibility into their EMC onsite service activities. With the help of a Tableau consultant, the rapid prototyping eliminated hours of writing detailed functional and technical designs and transformed a complex customer idea into a tangible working model based on a data extract. This model was later transformed into a customer-facing web page.
How to best leverage big data is something that all companies are trying to solve. EMC is no exception to this. However, the innovative Tableau solution that EMC business teams have implemented today are allowing analysts, business users, and executives to leverage big data in a way that is turning analytical dashboards into revenue generating products. This session will present how a major EMC business organization is leveraging Tableau and injecting innovation to solve the customer demands of data analytics through visualization.
When our group adopted Tableau, we had inherited an environment where previous IT-driven data projects had failed and business groups had adopted individual solutions. These were a combination of manual data extracts, Excel macros, PowerPivot, PowerPoint, and human glue. On one hand this meant that groups were willing to work with us to improve their cumbersome processes, but on the other hand it meant they were often locked into an Excel mindset where creating a report always means seeing all the data.
In this presentation, we'll walk through two real-life (data changed to protect the innocent) examples of evolving an Excel spreadsheet into an interactive dashboard.
We will discuss:
- Helping people break out of their preconceived notions of what data should look like (maybe a table isn't the only answer?)
- Getting people to admit what they actually "do" with those Excel spreadsheets (what is in all those hidden tabs?)
- Convincing people that it is worth their time to learn a new tool (isn't one-click filtering cool?)
- Drawing a polite line in the sand on what you will and will not implement (I will not color every cell in this table, is there a threshold at which values require action?)
- Building a consistent brand (don't worry, the VP/CEO/your boss uses dashboards which look and feel very similar to this every day.)
At the end, you should have a strategy to help people who can't immediately grasp the advantages of a tool like Tableau over their trusty Excel spreadsheets.
Do you want to enable your business leaders to make data driven workforce decisions quickly and effectively, without having to combine multiple sources in Excel? In this session, you will learn how VMware enriched their workforce data by combining external recruiting, equity, and financial planning data by leveraging Workday Big Data Analytics to create a consolidated, robust, and high quality data source for Tableau visualizations. Enabling business leaders and HR business partners to make data driven people decisions.
